Unified sign language for hearing-impaired

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) had been working on a unified sign language for hearing impaired persons, claimed Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister on DEPD Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar on Thursday. He said that the department had so far agreed upon on 2,500 words and in the first phase of the project 4,000 words would be introduced.
Qamar said this while visiting the Deaf Reach School and College in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Qamar maintained that he would consult the relevant authority regarding the affiliation of schools for the hearing-impaired with Secondary Education Boards. He further maintained that a certain number of interpreters would be trained for aiding hearing-impaired persons.
