Six including five minors killed, as rain lashes K-P
Three houses collapse, a school boundary wall caves in
PESHAWAR:
As many as five minors and a woman were killed and 10 people injured in separate rain-related incidents in the province during the past one week.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDAM) in a report issued on Thursday said a total of three houses collapsed and boundary wall of a school caved in in the current spell of rains in the province.
The report said the heavy rain caused a house to collapse in Takhbhai tehsil of Mardan district in which four minors were killed while seven including five children sustained injuries.
Rescue 1122 workers have retrieved the injured from the debris and shifted them to Mardan Medical Complex.
The PDMA report further said that at least one child was killed when the boundary wall of a school collapsed in the Barikot area of Swat district.
The report added that a woman was killed when a house collapsed in Swat district. A house partially collapsed in Buner district and a mud house in Nowshera district also caved in, however, no human loss was reported in both the incidents.
The PDMA has directed the district administrations for rescue efforts. The PDMA is on high alert and was in close contact with relevant departments, it said.
Meanwhile, K-P Minister for Housing Dr Amjad Ali met with parents of the child who died after the school boundary caved in. Dr Amjad announced Rs300,000 for the parents of the deceased minor. He also handed over Rs200,000 cash on behalf of K-P Chief Secretary Kazim Niaz.
In Janaury, at least 104 people were killed and 96 injured across the country following heavy rains, snowfall and avalanches, according to a report by the National Disaster Management Authority.
Similarly, according to a report by the PDMA as many as 18 houses were completely destroyed while 15 others were partially damaged due to heavy rains in January this year.

There seems to be no respite in sight as the Met department has predicted more rain in several parts of the province.
The Met Office said on Thursday that rain, wind and thunderstorm–with a few hailstorm– is expected at scattered places in the provincial capital, Khyber, Charsadda, Mohmand, Nowshera, Swabi Mardan, Haripur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Kohistan, Shangla, Swat, Bunner, Malakand, Upper and Lower Dir, Bajaur, Chitral, Kohat, Hangu, Orakzai, Kurram, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, North Waziristan, DI Khan, Tank and South Waziristan districts. Snowfall may also occur over high mountains of Chitral, Upper Dir, Upper Swat, Kohistan and Mansehra districts.

Malamjaba received at least six inch of snow and the lowest minimum temperature recorded during the last 24 hours in Kalam and Malamjaba was -01°C.
