ISLAMABAD: PML-N Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed on Monday said the "bigoted Hindutva ideology" in India has vindicated Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah's stance of a separate homeland for the sub-continent's Muslims 80 years ago.

“What is happening in India today has proven the Quaid-i-Azam right as he saw through this bigoted Hindutwa mindset 80 years ago and that is why, he demanded an independent state for the Muslims,” he said while discussing the recent sporadic violence against Muslims in New Delhi which saw killings of over 40 people.

He was addressing an event titled "A Tribute to Quaid-i-Azam" organised to commemorate 80 years of the passage of the Pakistan Resolution at the historic Lahore session of the All India Muslim League in March 1940.

Speakers from the three major political parties paid rich tributes to the Quaid-i-Azam for his vision, will, leadership, character and courage and conviction.

Pakistan is more inclusive today but India on the other hand has become “exclusive and narrow minded,” said Senator Mushahid, who is also the chairman of senate foreign affairs committee. He maintained that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is destroying the legacy of India's founding fathers.

“It is imperative that Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to Quaid's vision of a tolerant, inclusive, pluralistic and progressive Pakistan.”

Senator Mushahid paid tribute to the Quaid-e-Azam, saying he created Pakistan through the democratic process “without having any army or financial support”.

Speaking on the occasion, former Senate chairman Raza Rabbani praised the founder of Pakistan for liberating the Muslims of sub-continent from the “yoke of Congress domination”.

Senator Shibli Faraz, the leader of the house in the Senate, said that Quaid-i-Azam is a role model for all Pakistanis and the "Pakistani nation is eternally grateful to him for giving us freedom".

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, Syed Fakhar Imam said the Quaid-i-Azam is the greatest of all the subcontinent leaders and "we can continue his legacy with the provision of good quality education".
