Twitter demands a Nobel Prize for Imran Khan after US Afghan peace deal
The #NobelPeacePrizeforImranKhan was trending on Twitter following the US-Taliban peace deal
In wake of the historic deal between the US and Taliban to bring peace in Afghanistan, a wave of tweets calling for Prime Minister Imran Khan to be nominated for Nobel Peace prize have flooded the internet.
Given that the peace deal signed on Saturday was brokered and facilitated by Pakistan, many believe that the PM should be recognised for his efforts internationally. The #NobelPeacePrizeforImranKhan became a top trend on Twitter over the weekend as a result.
Many went on to point out that it was Imran Khan that first suggested that the US should settle it's issues with Taliban peacefully.
The Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar also expressed the same sentiments as he credited Imran Khan as the only leader who has been striving for peace in the region. “The prime minister is the only political leader who had been opposing war in the region,” Sarwar said.
The governor expressed these views while calling for awarding the Nobel Peace Prize to Prime Minister Imran Khan, in recognition of his role in the Afghan peace process, in a media statement issued on Sunday.
By all standards, he deserves the Nobel Prize, he added. “PM Imran Khan sent a message of peace to the international community last year by setting a captured Indian pilot free, although India had been promoting war hysteria.”
