Qatar inviting Pakistan to the peace deal signing ceremony between the United States and the Afghan Taliban is a great honour and an acknowledgement of Pakistan's efforts, said Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday.

While talking to the media in Doha, FM Qureshi said foreign ministers and representatives of 50 countries would participate in the historic ceremony and it will be covered by media all over the world.

“The world is appreciating Pakistan's role in bringing peace to Afghanistan,” the foreign minister said.

The foreign minister further said that along with the US-Taliban peace deal, international delegations are also discussing the sectarian riots in the Indian capital of New Delhi.

Tensions remained high in India’s capital, as thousands of riot police and paramilitaries patrolled streets littered with the debris from days of sectarian riots that have killed 38 people.

“The genocide taking place in New Delhi is also under discussion here,” Qureshi said. “Key members of the foreign relations committee had expressed their deep concern over the matter. Artists from all over the world have voiced their concern.”

FM Qureshi further said India had failed in isolating Pakistan on the diplomatic level. “Their efforts to place Pakistan on the FATF's black have been squandered.”

The foreign minister added that India tried its best to hinder the Afghan peace deal. “Nevertheless, if the deal is reached, it will be a huge success [for Pakistan]," he added.

The 18-month gruelling talks between the two warring sides have now resulted in an imminent agreement between the militant group and the US under which foreign troops would be withdrawn from the war-torn country.

In return, the Taliban have agreed not to allow the Afghan soil to be used against any other country.
