WB team visits Sukkur, Guddu barrages
The mission also expressed its interest in the restoration of Sukkur Barrage

A World Bank (WB) mission visited Sukkur and Guddu Barrage to review the rehabilitation work, stated the chief engineer of the barrages, Irshad Memon, on Thursday.
He informed that the mission was briefed about the Guddu Barrage rehabilitation project, which includes the replacement of 65 gates of the main barrage and 25 gates of canals including Ghotki Feeder, Begari Sindh Feeder and Pat Desert Feeder. Moreover, the project also aims to rehabilitate the river banks, allowing the discharge of 1.2 million cusecs of water.
The mission also expressed its interest in the restoration of Sukkur Barrage, an important site in Sindh, Memon mentioned.
He added that the WB had already approved the project and provided financial assistance of $160 million for replacement and restoration work.
Besides the infrastructural development, Memon said that the WB team was also interested in conserving marine life.
