Corruption: Probe ordered against Khanewal TMO

District coordination officer Rashid Mehmood has ordered an inquiry into corruption allegations against Khanewal tehsil municipal officer.



A trader, Akhlaq Ahmad, had filed in his application to the DCO had accused TMO Muzaffar Baig of receiving a bribe from him to approve the design of his commercial property. He said he had paid Rs0.45 million to Baig who later refused to approve the design. The complainant said the TMO was not returning his money. DCO Mehmood had earlier appointed Muhammad Ayub Khan to inquire into the allegations but later withdrew his name on reservations expressed by the complainant. The DCO has now appointed assistance commissioner Aamir Karim to probe the allegations. TMO Baig, however, rejected the allegations and said that he had never taken any bribe from the complainant in return for approving the building design.
