Easing retirement process: police dept devises new policy
Officials will be granted mandatory 30-day leave

A new retirement and pension policy has been devised for the police with a focus on constables, the backbone of the department.
SSP Admin Liaqat Ali Malik told The Express Tribune that under the new policy the documentation process of the officials will be kick-started six months before the retirement date. One month earlier, the official will be granted mandatory 30-day leave exclusively to focus on completion of the documentation.
Malik said an official served almost all of his life for the department in a very tedious and challenging nature of the job.
“Rather than taking a sigh of relief on retirement, he enters into another phase of hardship,” he remarked.
The completion of documentation for a retirement case involves several branches. A file has to go through almost 20 people. To cope with the issue, they had put the matter on the shoulders of welfare branch.
LHC directs Punjab Police to use appropriate word for ‘hooligans’
The branch earlier had been doing the job for the families of martyrs and those who died during duty. A software, Welfare Eye, had been developed for the purpose and staff designated for the job. Lahore Police has decided to expand the scope and include the facilitation of those on the job.
Malik told The Express Tribune that they had decided to conduct a meeting each month of all the branches concerned for the purpose. He added that by December 31, 2019, they had pinpointed 162 cases to benefit from the policy initially.
Documentation needed
The documents required include an application for pension, four pictures, four copies of CNIC, family list, four payslips of last month, clearance certificate from district police lines, inquiry clearance certificate, bank form certified from manager, indemnity bonds, copy of retirement orders, dispatch report from district police lines, an order from OSI branch, Last Pay Certificate (LPC), ‘Amaalnama’ and service rules.
All these documents need to be certified according to the recommendations.
An officer shared with The Express Tribune that getting the LPC and career report proved an uphill task. It takes a lot of time and energy for the candidate to procure them.
