CJP unhappy with Keenjhar’s condition
Federal funds, adding up to Rs6 billion, released for the construction of the dam also misappropriated
ISLAMABAD:
The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed has expressed dismay over the Sindh government’s failure to submit a progress report on the implementation of water commission.
A three-member bench, headed by CJP, during a hearing on the implementation of the commission’s recommendation, stated that Keejhar Lake was the largest lake in the province and yet, dirty water was being discharged into the lake.
The Sindh irrigation department deputy secretary told the court that 64 small dams were constructed in the province. At this, the CJP asked who was stopping the provincial government from building the New Gaj Dam. Adding to it, Justice Ijazul Ahsan said that federal funds, adding up to Rs6 billion, released for the construction of the dam were also misappropriated.
Irrigation department’s officials told the court that the anti-corruption department had sought permission to prosecute 17 people for misappropriation.
