Balochistan Chief Secretary Captain (retd) Fazeel Asghar has said that the provincial government has taken stringent steps to prevent the spread of coronavirus in Pakistan.

“Balochistan government has taken all security measures to prevent the deadly virus from reaching Pakistan,” he said, while chairing a high-level meeting in the wake of deaths due to coronavirus in Iran.

The chief secretary said that all the departments concerned were working day and night to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as the issue related not only to the province but the entire country.

He noted that reports of coronavirus in the neighboring country was a disturbing fact as the border between Pakistan and Iran was interlinked and commuters routinely cross over on both sides.

“We will continue to make efforts to stop the virus from hitting Pakistan,” he said.

“People coming from Iran to Pakistan are being screened and no one from Pakistan should be allowed to go to Iran. A medical emergency has also been declared on the border areas,” he added.

He directed the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) director general to ensure sufficient supply of food and medicines for the visitors at Taftan border.

He ordered a close monitoring of all entry points including Naushki, Mashkeel, Taftan, and Mand and sending the visitors from Iran to their respective areas through special vehicles.

The health secretary informed the meeting that medical teams along with advanced machinery had been dispatched to all border crossing points.
