Would-be teenage bomber granted bail

Magistrate says none of the offences non bail-able.

A court of magistrate Saturday granted post-arrest bail to a suspected teenage suicide bomber saying all charges levelled by the police are bail-able offences.


Magistrate Muhammad Ismail Akhar granted bail to Shahrukh after Ganjmandi police registered a case against him under the charges of carrying illegal weapons. The boy was also impersonating as an army solider.

The court directed Shahrukh to deposit Rs30,000 as surety bonds. He will be released after he has submitted the surety money, according to officials of the court.

If the suspect cannot deposit the surety bonds he will remain in the jail till August 6, which is the next date of hearing.

The 14-year-old boy was presented before the media on Friday after he was arrested wearing the uniform of a soldier of special services group (SSG) of army and carrying two pen pistols. Ganjmandi police said the boy was carrying Rs39,000.

The investigators told the media persons that the boy had confessed to be a trained suicide bomber. Shahrukh obtained training in carrying out terrorist acts at Waziristan after he was persuaded by Qari Zaheer alias Qari Sahib to target the government installations.

The boy is a resident of Rawalpindi and said that he met Qari Zaheer at a mosque and was inspired by his ideas of waging jihad.

The police had said that the boy was coming from Federally Administered Tribal Areas after receiving training and money for terrorism. He was to be given suicide vest in Rawalpindi where Shahrukh had to carry out a suicide bombing, according to the police.
