Young Memon Generation, a group taking part in cooperative housing society elections, protested against the postponement of the elections.
“We will challenge the move in court,” said the group’s contender for the society chairperson, Zubair Ghangra on Saturday.
The elections for administrative positions of the Memon Cooperative Housing Society were meant to be held on July 22. There are around 750 homes in the society that was established some 45 years ago. It is situated near Wahdat Colony in Qasimabad.
Ghangra blames his opposition in the elections - the Dr Razzak Memon-led group - for not holding elections for last four years. “It is a violation of the cooperative society by-laws,” he contended.
Dr Razzak Memon was unavailable for comment. He is contesting for chairperson from the Khidmatgar group.
Sajid Jokhio, a former Sindh Cooperative Housing Authority inspector, told The Express Tribune that the elections are meant to be held every year according to the society’s laws.
“If they are postponed for some reason, the authority appoints an administrator as an interim arrangement.”
