United States Ambassador Paul Jones paid a surprise visit to Roshan Pakistan Academy on Wednesday, where more than 200 students are enrolled. Accompanied by US Consul General Rob Silberstein, the ambassador toured the school grounds, interacted with students, and learned about the school's community-based education model.

"The talented and motivated young people at Roshan Pakistan Academy illustrate the tremendous resource that Pakistan's youth is," he said while talking to the school's founder, Humaira Bachal, and the academy's director, Muhammed Ilyas. "We believe education is the driver of prosperity and development, which is why the US has invested more than 25 billion Pakistani rupees ($159.2 million) in basic education across Sindh since 2012."

Each year, the US sponsors over 800 Pakistanis, such as Bachal who was part of the Emerging Leaders of Pakistan exchange programme in 2013, to gain experiences that they bring to Pakistan, creating more opportunities for economic advancement and empowerment across the country.

Roshan Pakistan Academy is a non-profit organization that provides primary education for marginalised communities in Hub, Balochistan, and Gulshan-e-Mazdoor, Karachi. The school was founded in 2016 by Bachal to improve the socio-economic conditions of the underprivileged communities through education, literacy and mentorship.
