ECP takes notice of ‘threatening’ founding member
Akbar S Babar had filed the petition on January 20 in the ECP
ISLAMABAD:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday took notice of the alleged threats hurled at founding member of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) Akbar S Babar in the foreign funding case.
The ECP issued a notice to Babar and directed him to appear in person on February 27.
Babar had moved a petition in the ECP maintaining that the PTI leadership was resorting to different ways to intimidate and threaten him in the foreign funding case.
He appealed the ECP to provide him protection under Section 4 of the Election Commission Act. He also requested the commission to conduct day-to-day hearing of the foreign funding case.
Babar had filed the petition on January 20 in the ECP.
He had filed the foreign funding case in November 2014 against the PTI leadership including its Chairman Imran Khan and the then secretary general Dr Arif Alvi alleging that they were involved in illegal funds collection, money laundering, and misappropriation of party funds under the political party’s funding laws.
