MULTAN: The Central Cotton Research Institute (CCRI) will train farmers to produce environment-friendly and economically better cotton through the latest technology in collaboration with the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI).

The decision was the crux of a meeting held at the CCRI on Tuesday. It was attended by CCRI Agronomy Department chief Dr Naveed Ahmed, provincial coordinators Dr Fayyaz Ahmed and Abdul Wahab Somroo, BCI Senior Coordinator Ayesha Siddique and others.

It was the third meeting of the two organisations under the guidelines of the Ministry of National Food Security and Research. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Fayyaz Ahmed said cotton growers would benefit a lot for better crop production through the training. He said state of the art technology should be used for cotton production. He stated that the initiative would help farmers improve production with low expenditures.

The BCI official highlighted that there was a dire need to equip the farmers with the latest technology. She further added that it will result in an improved production of cotton which will increase the demand. She maintained that the ways and means would be decided through this meeting for low-cost cotton growth.
