K-P to accelerate women empowerment policy implementation
'Measures by the government will end gender disparities in the province'
PESHAWAR:
The provincial government will accelerate the implementation of its women empowerment policy to create an inclusive and enabling environment for women of the province.
This was stated during a consultative workshop on the implementation framework of the Women Empowerment Policy (WEP) 2017. The workshop had been jointly arranged by the Social Welfare, Special Education and Women Empowerment Department (SWWED) of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and UN Women Pakistan under the Aawaz-II Joint Programme funded by UK’s Department for International Development (DFID).
“K-P’s women empowerment policy substantiates the government’s strong commitment towards dealing with challenges that hinder women’s empowerment,” said Rukhshanda Naz on behalf of, K-P SWWED.
The policy, she said, identifies social, economic, political and legal empowerment - including access to justice as key areas for the provincial government to work on for enhancing the role of women in society. Measures by the government will end gender disparities in the province and help achieve the targets set out in the Sustainable Development Goals.
Naz acknowledged and appreciated UN Women for its contribution and support in developing the policy and reiterated the government’s commitment to implement the policy effectively.
