KARACHI:
A van carrying students of a private university was looted by two robbers in Bhittai Colony near Korangi Crossing on Monday morning.

Two armed men, riding a motorcycle, deprived the students of their mobile phones, cash and other valuables at gunpoint and fled from the spot.

The police reportedly arrived at the scene an hour after the incident. They gathered evidence and recorded the statements of the students who had been robbed.

Meanwhile, area residents took to the streets to protest against the regular occurrence of criminal activity in broad daylight, claiming that the locality had turned into a 'den' of criminals. "Criminal elements would not have been able to function like this if they were not supported by the police," claimed one of the protesters.

According to the protesters, they had informed the police about criminal activities being carried out in the area in the mornings, but no action had yet been taken. They added that the police had failed to control crime in the locality, urging senior police officials and Rangers to take notice of the issue and resolve it.

Ibrahim Hyderi DSP Jaffer Baloch claimed that only four students lost their belongings during the robbery, while most of them escaped unscathed. He added that the police were carrying out further investigations into the incident.
