Swindler with Rs7m in cash apprehended

The Industrial Area police took immediate action and registered a case against unidentified thieves

ISLAMABAD: The Industrial Area police on Friday claimed to have apprehended a man who had accumulated Rs7 million in local and International currency by allegedly swindling locals, a police spokesperson said.

The suspect worked as a driver at a house and used to defraud people into giving money by pretending that the house had caught fire, the officer added.

Muhammad Afzal, a resident of Sector I-8 in the federal capital, told the police that his family had gone to Sargodha on February 8. However, his driver, identified as Nayar Iqbal, approached Afzal in the mosque where he was offering his Fajar prayers and informed him that a fire had erupted in his house.

On hearing this news, Afzal said he rushed home. He also called the police and the fire brigade. However, on reaching the spot, he saw that the house was intact but a bag containing around Rs7 million in local and Saudi currency was missing.

On his complaint, the Industrial Area police took immediate action and registered a case against unidentified thieves.

Industrial Area- SP Zubair Ahmad Shaikh took serious notice of the case and constituted a special police team under the supervision of ASP Zohaib Nasrullah Ranjha along with SHO Industrial Area Muhammad Ashraf Rana, Inspector Mubarak Ali, ASI Muhammad Ramzan who managed to apprehend the suspect.

SP Shaikh requested citizens to submit documents of domestic help working in their homes for security purposes.
