PESHAWAR: The Special Assistant to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Syed Ahmad Shah on Wednesday said that the provincial government will spend around Rs20 million on family planning projects in the province.

The special assistant expressed these views while chairing an introductory meeting on ‘Delivering Accelerated Family Planning in Pakistan —Public Sector Service Delivery Project’ (DAFPAK PSSD).

Shah stated that the government is planning a comprehensive strategy to control rapid population growth as it was committed to bringing a balance between available resources and the population growth rate.

He said that in light of Council of recommendations from the Common Interest (CCI), both at the federal and the provincial level, task forces and committees have been established for addressing the rapid population growth. At the moment, some 700 family planning centres are operational across the province. Further, he said that on the issue of family planning, a proper debate will be conducted in the provincial assembly so that effective legislation can be done on the subject.
