Slain polio workers to get Rs8.8m compensation

SWABI: The provincial government on Wednesday sanctioned a sum of Rs.8.8 million as compensation for the families and heirs of the two polio workers who were gunned down during the polio eradication campaign in Swabi last month.

The grant consists of Rs6.6 million as cash compensation and Rs2.2 million in the form of a plot as death compensation.

Lady Health Workers (LHWs) Shakeela Naz and Ghuncha Sartaj, basic pay scale (BPS) grade 5 officers of the Swabi District Health Department, had been killed when they were immunizing children in the district.

The legal heirs of each slain worker will be paid Rs3.3 million as cash compensation and Rs1.1 million in the form of a plot.
