ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court will hear a plea filed by National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri against his disqualification and re-election in the constituency from the election tribunal on February 11.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Yahya Afridi will hear the petition.

The previous hearing was adjourned without proceedings on the request of Suri.

In September 2019, the election tribunal had disqualified Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Qasim Suri from NA-265 on a plea from Balochistan National Party leader Lashkari Raisani over allegations of rigging in general elections of 2018. Later, Suri appealed in SC against the decision of election tribunal. The SC nullified the tribunal’s decision as well as Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision to de-notify him as a lawmaker.
