WAPDA, KRL score narrow wins

Just four goals scored in three PPFL matches yesterday.

Defending champions Wapda defeated National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) 1-0 while Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) outplayed Habib Bank Limited (HBL) 2-0 in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches that took place in Karachi yesterday.


Captain Zulfiqar Ali Shah scored the 50th-minute winner for Wapda as NBP’s failure to equalise resulted in their second loss of the season. With the win, the four-time PPFL champions have climbed up to fifth with 11 points after seven matches.

Meanwhile, KRL continued their winning streak with their seventh victory in the league. After a dull first half, Samar Ishaq scored the first goal of the match in the 63rd minute and while Sanaullah doubled the lead in the 79th minute to seal the win.


This was HBL’s second loss in the tournament, one that allowed KRL to maintain top spot in the league with 19 points.

In the last match of the day, Pakistan Army defeated Baloch FC 1-0 in Quetta. Mohammad Akhtar scored the only goal of the match in the 62nd minute.

With the win, Army has climbed up one place with seven points from seven matches.
