The Kashmir Solidarity Day, observed every year on February 5, has a specially morose feel this year around - Indian forces enforced a security lock down on the region earlier in 2019 following the revocation of Article 370 in India's constitution.

With a renewed fervor to extend support to the perpetually oppressed Muslim majority state, Pakistani twitter has come out in troves to dedicate numerous trends to the cause including #KashmirSolidarityDay, #StandWithKashmir, #KashmirDay, #KashmirWantsFreedom and #MillionsForKashmir.

Prime Minister Imran Khan was the first to rally support for the affected people in Kashmir. On January 24, the sitting PM tweeted, "I want Pakistanis at home and abroad to come out on 5th Feb in support of the 8 million Kashmiris who have been besieged by 900k Indian soldiers."

"Do you want to hear the story of Kashmir? Thousands of rapes, thousands lost eyesight because of pellet guns, thousands of Kashmiris missing..." tweeted one user.

One user commended the courage of the Kashmiri freedom fighters who have been standing up for their rights for seven decades now, with unflinching resolve. "You can't defeat these people.Their stones are more powerful than your bullets."

"This day not only recognises their struggle for freedom but is a tribute to their martyrs," said one Twitter user, adding that they need our support every day.

Another tweet pointed out how  long its been since Kashmir has been under lock down saying, "This #KashmirSolidarityDay marks the 185th day since the lock down in Kashmir.Let’s write and combine our voices to resolve the agony Kashmiris are suffering everyday!"

Needless to say, this day holds immense importance, specially in light of the recent plight of Kashmiris which hopefully will be a thing of the past the next time this day rolls around.
