The health department of Dera Ghazi Khan has confirmed the two virus-infected children including 10-month-old infant Aisha and four-monthsold Tehseen Zahra and both of them belong to Aaliwala area of Kot Chhata.
Aisha is infected at the right side of her body, who is currently admitted in Nishtar Hospital Multan for the treatment. A special team of the health department arrived at the residence of Aisha on Wednesday after polio cases surfaced and provided her with medical assistance and obtained samples for further tests. Inquiries have been initiated in this connection.
Deputy Commissioner Tahir Farooq told The Express Tribune that the health officials of the department went to the affected town and reviewed the information which showed that the affected children have been vaccinated thrice as per the health records of the department.
The presence of the virus is shocking and suspicious, but it is being thoroughly investigated and anyone found responsible for this negligence will be prosecuted after the investigation, he remarked.
To counter the risk, the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) of Punjab has set up special vaccination points all over the province to vaccinate every child on the move.
As many as 14 such points are located at confluence of other provinces in Attock, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Rawalpindi, Rahim Yar Khan, Rajanpur and DG Khan.
The points have been selected keeping in view migration of populations form areas where the polio virus may exist.
Sehat Muhafiz teams have been deployed here for 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
