Indonesia confers highest military award on Admiral Abbasi

Naval chief meets top navy officers of Indonesia including his counterpart Sakti Wahyu Trenggono

ISLAMABAD:
The government of Indonesia has conferred Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi with the highest military award of the country – Bintang Jalasena Utama.

Admiral Abbasi also met top naval officers including his counterpart Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, who is also the vice defence minister of the country, in an official visit to Jakarta.

The naval chief also called upon Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy Admiral Siwi Sukma Adji and Commandant of the Marine Corps Major General Suhartono while visiting the Marine Brigade Headquarters, said a statement issued by the Director General Public Relations (Navy) on Saturday.

A ceremonial guard of honour was also presented to the naval chief upon his arrival at the Indonesian naval headquarters in Jakarta.

During his meetings with the Indonesian navy officers, matters pertaining to regional security and mutual interest including bilateral defence collaboration were discussed.


The naval chief emphasised upon tremendous potential of Pakistan to raise defence cooperation and positively contribute towards peace and security initiatives in the region.

The Indonesian officials appreciated contributions of Pakistan for maintaining peace and stability in the region. Acknowledging the significance of a strong military collaboration, they also agreed to further enhance mutual interactions in diverse defence realms.

Later, the naval chief visited Marine Brigade Headquarters in the Indonesian capital and was received by the commandant of the Marine Corps. He also visited various installations at the vicinity. During the visit, Admiral Abbasi lauded the professionalism and competence of the Indonesian Marines Corps.

“The visit will further augment and expand defence ties between the two countries in general and navies in particular,” read the statement.
