Two panels, Journalists and Progressive, participated in the annual elections of the BUJ held on Thursday.
Tareen of the Journalist Panel bagged 57 votes against his opponent Salman Ashraf, who received 47 votes.
Shaheer Lodhi secured 52 votes for the seat of the vice president against Shahid Rind, who fetched 51 votes.
Rasheed Baloch was elected general secretary with 63 votes. His opponent, Shah Hussain Tareen, received 42 votes.
Kafayat Ali secured 57 votes for the seat of the senior joint secretary against Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed, who fell short with 48 votes.
Asim Ahmed Khan defeated against Naeem Bhathi for the seat of the joint secretary with 57 votes against his rival’s 50 votes.
Abdul Khaliq Rind, Hamadullah, Irfan Saeed, Khalil Ahmed, Gulzar Shah, Jabbar Baloch, Syed Ali Shah and Mohammad Azam Ulfat were elected executive committee members.
The BUJ elections were held under the supervision of election committee chairman Musa Furman and members Asif Baloch and Malik Nadeem Awan. A total of 105 members exercised their right to vote.
Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal congratulated the newly elected office-bearers of the BUJ on their victory.
In a felicitation message, the chief minister expressed the hope that new office-bearers would make all-out efforts for the welfare of journalists. He said the provincial government would support the BUJ in every way it could.
“The government is working to address the issues of media persons and provide them facilities including the establishment of the Siddiq Baloch Journalist Academy, increase in journalists’ welfare funds and the provision of land for a journalists colony.
