'Delhi protesters will rape your daughters': BJP minister uses shocking election tactics
Parvesh Verma also claims BJP will clear protesters in a day if voted to power in coming elections
In a bid to ace upcoming Delhi elections, a lawmaker from the India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday stirred controversy with his hateful comments about people staging protest against the government's controversial citizenship law.
According to Hindustan Times, Parvesh Verma – who claimed that the government would clear the protesters in a day if the BJP is voted to power in the city government’s February 8 election — asked people of Delhi to "think hard" before they vote.
Indian govt’s anti-Muslim agenda condemned
“Today, that fire has engulfed a corner of Delhi. Lakhs of people gather there [Shaheen Bagh]. People of Delhi will have to think hard and take a decision. They will enter your houses, rape your sisters and daughters, and kill them. There’s time today, Modiji and Amit Shah will not come to save you tomorrow. It will be a lot better if the people of Delhi wake up today,” said Verma in his repulsive speech aimed to woo voters for the upcoming elections.
To Muslim organisations, rights groups and others, the new law is a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s agenda — which he denies — of marginalising India’s 200-million-strong Muslim minority.
The Citizenship Amendment Act provides that Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians fleeing persecution in Muslim-majority Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan can be granted citizenship – except Muslims.
