KARACHI:
Social change activist and artist Shehzil Malik has taken to social media, calling for poster design submissions for this year's Aurat March.

The annual event, which was organised by feminist collective Hum Aurtain in Karachi last year, aims to bring women together in a public space to voice key issues in the country.

"Be part of Aurat March 2020 by designing a poster that shows why you think womxn should march for their rights in Pakistan," Malik wrote, alongside an open call design in both English and Urdu.

In a separate tweet, she explained the meaning of the term 'womxn.' "Womxn is a term that is used to be inclusive of trans and non-binary women," Malik tweeted to her followers.

Aurat March began in 2018, where several women, children and men took part in Karachi only. Last year, the march expanded to other cities such as Lahore, Islamabad, Hyderabad, Quetta, Peshawar and Faisalabad, as people from all walks of life joined the movement for gender justice.

Known for its bright orange posters in the past, people from all walks of life come together during the event. Many also make their own creative posters, representing groups from various parts of society.

The march across cities of Pakistan is held to mark International Women’s Day.
