KARACHI: Maintaining that both the Centre and Sindh run off the efforts of Karachi, city mayor Wasim Akhtar requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to pay heed to the issues of the provincial capital.

Speaking at a ceremony held at the Karachi Press Club to honour journalist Tahir Siddiqi for qualifying in the Karachi Marathon, Akhtar said that the citizens of Karachi cast the votes that allowed the formation of the federal government, but their problems were not being addressed.

During the same address, the mayor added that Karachi was being destroyed by stagnant sewerage water and garbage lying on roads, which were spreading hazardous diseases, as well as the fact that several areas of the city have been without running water for the past three months.

Akhtar maintained that the concerns of the city would not be solved by a one-day visit by the Prime Minister and instead should be given attention by the federal government, even though it was the Sindh government's responsibility to provide water and maintain the sewerage system.
