ISLAMABAD:

The Punjab Wildlife and Parks Department has invited applications for a pheasant shooting competition in Kallar Kahar.

The three-day hunting event will commence on February 8, where local and international hunters will be allowed to participate in the competition.

People seeking to participate in the competition have been asked to deposit Rs15,000 till February 3 to have the opportunity to take home trophy of ring necked and green falcon.

The wildlife department has also issued instructions for the competition according to which every registered hunter would be given a five-member shooting line after a lucky draw and each of them will be allowed to take maximum of 15 shots for not more than five fowl each.

A senior official of the wildlife department told The Express Tribune that all ring-necked and green pheasants to be released for hunting belonged to their breeding farms. He added that the department has a breeding staff for this purpose. In this regard, a wildlife conservationist Aftab Rana said wild fowl were born to fly free, yet government cages and breeds them for quarry. Rana said killing birds for sport was a senseless pursuit.
