Lashkar chief survives attempted suicide attack

Dilawar Khan was attending a jirga at the house of a former nazim in the Bazikhel area.

PESHAWAR:
The chief of a peace lashkar survived an attempted suicide attack in the Bazikhel area of Badaber on Thursday.

Express 24/7 correspondent Umer Farooq reported Dilawar Khan was attending a jirga at the house of a former nazim when a young man hurled a grenade at the first vehicle of the lashkar chief’s convoy.

The attacker was killed after retaliatory firing from Dilawar Khan’s guards.

Members of the lashkar confirmed that the attacker was wearing a suicide jacket.

Police has cordoned off the area and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) has been called in to defuse the jacket.

Dilawar Khan, leader of a tribal militia, joined forces with Pakistani security forces in 2008 to help them battle a rising tide of militancy. He has lost 82 fighters and barely survived numerous assassination attempts but still stands up to militants bent on toppling the government.
