KARACHI:
A retired law enforcement agency officer was killed by unknown assailants at Qayyumabad Expressway on Saturday.

According to Korangi SHO Rana Haseeb, the deceased, identified as 52-year-old Mushtaq Gul, was reportedly a retired major of a security agency and owned two schools, one in Gulshan-e-Iqbal and the other in Defense Housing Authority Phase II.

Gul was going to his residence from Gulshan-e-Iqbal and had stopped to buy fruits from a vendor. SHO Haseeb said that the culprits chose a spot to gun him down that is usually not crowded and is only used by people traveling to or returning from DHA or Clifton. "The shooters had done a complete recce of Gul and that is why they chose to shoot him at a less populated spot, which did not even have a CCTV camera," claimed the SHO.

The deceased suffered a bullet wound in the lower abdomen area, while the fruit vendor was also shot in the leg. The body and injured were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

Police could not recover the bullet shells from the crime scene, while the culprits were able to escape the location. According to police, the incident seems to be an outcome of personal enmity, but they are investigating the case from different angles.
