Relief work continues in affected areas
CM visits Muslim Bagh and Pishin; meets tribal leaders
QUETTA:
Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal on Thursday visited Muslim Bagh, Pishin and Ziarat in order to meet people affected by snowfall and rain as relief operation in these areas continued on the fifth consecutive day.
The CM took an aerial view of the snowfall in Muslim Bagh and Ziarat valley and also met tribal elders.
He announced compensation for people affected by snowfall and rains and directed authorities to utilize all resources in restoring infrastructure damaged by severe weather. “The relief and rescue operations will continue in the province,” he said.
Addressing tribal elders in Muslim Bagh and Pishin, he said food items and goods are being delivered in areas cut off from the rest of the province. “Hundreds of lives have been rescued due to the government’s timely actions.”
Kamal said the provincial government’s helicopter is being used to deliver food and necessary goods in areas that are cut off and do not have communication access. He directed the Communication and Works Department to restore highways in areas pummelled by snowfall.
Qilla Saifullah Deputy Commissioner Atique Ur Rehman and Pishin DC Qaim Lashari also briefed the CM regarding relief and rescue effort in their districts.
Lives of ordinary people may have been disturbed by snowfall and torrential rains but they would prove beneficial for the province’s drought-hit areas and agriculture, they said.
Meanwhile, relief and rescue operations continued in areas hit by snowfall and torrential rains with food items and necessary goods being delivered in many districts.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Thursday delivered 8,000 kg of food as well as tents and other necessary goods in Qilla Abdullah, Pishin, Ziarat and Qilla Saifullah.
Balochistan Assembly member Shakila Dehwar on Friday said efforts would continue to provide relief to the people in snow and rain hit districts including Mastung and Kalat. Talking to APP, the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) lawmaker said she is personally monitoring the relief activities.
“Relief work is being done in coordination with provincial government and district administration. Each and every step will be taken to help out the people hit by the weather calamity. A survey to estimate the losses is also being conducted for provision of compensation to the affectees,” she added.
She expressed dissatisfaction over the slow pace of relief activities carried out by the PDMA. Dehwar appealed to the PDMA and Communications and Works (C&W) department to accelerate relief work on emergency basis in order to mitigate the suffering of people.
