Speakers stress closing gender gap in transport, logistics sector

Sindh women development minister says steps have been taken for women's capacity building

Speakers emphasised the need for development in the logistics and transport sector as well as making the industry more inclusive and diverse at a seminar titled 'Breaking Barriers', on Friday.

The seminar, focused on discussing the role of women and logistics and transport industry, was jointly organised by Women in Logistics and Transport (WiLAT) - the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport's women's forum - and the United States Consulate.

Addressing the seminar, speakers highlighted opportunities in the way of increasing gender diversity in the logistics and transport industry, in addition to discussing viable solutions to overcome the identified obstacles.

Sindh Women Development Minister Syeda Shehla Raza outlined the measures taken by the Women Development Department to empower women and close the gender gap. She said that steps have been taken for women's capacity building and skill development, as well as to provide them access to education, knowledge-sharing platforms, financial assistance and business-development platforms. "This will enable them to effectively contribute to the economy," she added.

Later, WiLAT representatives committed to providing all possible assistance for empowering women in the logistics and transport industry, so as that besides contributing to the economy, they are able to benefit from the resources, assets and incomes in a better way and improve their economic status.
