ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday instructed authorities to publicise evidence of corruption gathered against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and Vice President Maryam Nawaz.

In a meeting chaired by the premier, officials confirmed that the government would continue their ‘aggressive’ policy towards corrupt individuals.

During the meeting, sources said new developments in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case were brought to light and the decision was made to disclose the information to the public.

The prime minister said it is important for organisations to identify white-collar crimes, adding that the government will not compromise on any corruption scandals and will ensure a fair accountability process for all.

Cabinet gives nod to place Maryam on no-fly list in sugar mills case

“The nation should know the consequences for those responsible for destroying the economy,” he said.

Earlier this week, the federal cabinet gave the nod to place names of PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz in the Exit Control List (ECL).

A cabinet sub-committee had recommended the government to place Maryam on no-fly-list in Chaudhry Sugar Mills corruption case.

Maryam, who has already been on ECL ever since she convicted in the Avenfield corruption reference in 2018, is also accused of money laundering.

She was arrested by the anti-corruption watchdog on August 8, 2019 in a case pertaining to “shady business transactions” at CSM, where she is a major shareholder.

Maryam was granted bail by the Lahore High Court (LHC) in November later that year.
