State Minister for Narcotics Control Shehryar Afridi has challenged PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah to face trial in the narcotics recovery case against him "like a man" and not employ delaying tactics.

Sanaullah, who was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) on July 1 from the Islamabad-Lahore motorway, was released on bail last month.

The ANF claimed to have recovered 15 kilogrammes of heroin and other drugs from his possession during an operation conducted on a tip-off.

The former Punjab law minister, however, insists he has been implicated in a false case and is being politically victimised.

Addressing a National Assembly session on Tuesday, Afridi asked Sanaullah to learn from the teachings of the Holy Quran instead of "carrying it everywhere."

During the last NA session, Sanaullah swore by the Holy Quran that “a false case was concocted” against him. “I am ready to present myself for investigation at every forum,” he had said, demanding a judicial inquiry into the allegations against him.

"If you [Sanaullah] are speaking truth then you must face the trial and do not use the delaying tactics," the state minister said, asking Sanaullah to pledge on the floor of the house that he would attend the trial proceedings on the 18th of this month. "I will present the evidence and witnesses against him in court so that facts could be separated from fiction,” he said.

He vowed to take the case against Sanaullah to its logical conclusion, adding that the government would not let the PML-N leader escape from the case.

Responding to Afridi, Sanaullah reiterated that he had never maintained any kind of relations with drug dealers or smugglers his entire life. “I should face the wrath of Allah if I'm lying,” he said.

Sharing the ordeal of his arrest, Sanaullah said when he asked ANF officials the reason of his arrest, the reply was that "they have received orders from the seniors".
