RAWALPINDI: In a bid to engage youth for curbing crime, the Rawalpindi police have kicked-off a ‘Friends of Police’ campaign on Monday.

“The youth is playing a critical role in eliminating crime from the society,” remarked City Police Officer (CPO) Ahsan Younas at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Monday as he formally kicked off the campaign.

The CPO said a new policy was being introduced so that students can play an effective role in society as volunteers and friends of the police.

He further said that volunteers and friends of police will comprise students of colleges and universities who will be experts in information technology, law and psychologists. The students will also be provided internships in the police department, he added.

He brushed aside the apprehensions from students that women are vulnerable when working in the police. “A large number of women are working in the police department,” he reassured.
