PHP arrests 1,292 accused during 15-day campaign
Special operations were carried out against illegal arms, drug dealers and proclaimed offenders
Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP), over the last fortnight, arrested 1,292 accused and seized a large quantity of illegal arms and drugs, in a 15-day special campaign against criminals.
The crackdown was conducted on the instructions of Punjab IGP Shoaib Dastagir. Speaking to the media, Additional IG (AIG) Zafar Iqbal Awan said that the process of inspection and monitoring is being accelerated along with crackdowns to protect highways. “The IGP ordered fast action against criminal elements for the protection and service of passengers on highways.”
‘PHP should coordinate with police to curb crimes’
The AIG added that the PHP launched the special campaign in all districts of the province from December 16 to December 31. “During this campaign, special operations were carried out against illegal arms, drug dealers and proclaimed offenders.”
In connection with illegal arms operation, PHP seized three Kalashnikovs, 10 rifles, nine guns and more than 50 pistols, he briefed. “The accused were put behind bars. Similarly, more than 1,582 litres of alcohol and 15 kilogrammes of hashish were also seized.”
