MARDAN:
A day after it emerged that a Sikh youth murdered in the provincial capital on Sunday had been assassinated at the behest of his fiancé, the alleged hitman were remanded in police custody. His fiancé is currently in transit and is expected to be presented before a court in Peshawar on Saturday.

The body of 25-year-old Sikh youth, identified as Ravinder Singh, had been discovered in the Chamkani area of Peshawar on Sunday with a single bullet wound to his head.

Initially, the matter was presented as an attack on minorities. However, the police discovered that the men who killed Ravinder had allegedly been hired by his fiancé, Prem Kumari who did not want to marry him.

“She promised the hitmen Rs700,000 for Ravinder’s murder,” a police official said.

On Friday, the suspects were produced before a court in Peshawar which approved their physical remand.

Kumari has also been arrested and will be produced in a Peshawar court. A court in Mardan has already granted transit custody to the Peshawar police for further investigation, a court source added.
