Vote Counting: Wajahat plea dismissed
against an election tribunal’s order to the Gujrat sessions judge to inspect sealed ballots.
LAHORE:
A division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal by PML-Q MNA Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain against an election tribunal’s order to the Gujrat sessions judge to inspect sealed ballots. The tribunal of Justice Umar Ata Bandial had issued this order on a petition by the PPP’s Nawabzada Ghazanfar Ali Gill, challenging Hussain’s success at NA-104, Gujrat. The petitioner accused Hussain of rigging and disrupting the electoral process. Hussain submitted that the election tribunal was a civil court and therefore could not issue directions to a sessions judge. The bench rejected the argument and upheld the order.
