Former minister, poet Safwanullah passes away
Funeral prayer of the deceased will be performed on Monday
KARACHI:
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan's (MQM-P's) former leader and federal minister Syed Safwanullah passed away on Sunday, at the age of 83 years.
He was admitted to Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation four days ago for treatment pertaining to kidney problems.
Safwanullah was an economist, researcher, and a well-known poet. He was the head of Mohajir Rabita Council and also the patron-in-chief of Aalmi Mushaira Saakyan.
MQM-P's Deputy Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui expressed sorrow on his demise and said, "The country has lost an intellectual mind. His [Safwanullah's] contribution to literature will always be remembered." Siddiqui said that the late poet organised various literary events in Karachi.
The funeral prayer of the deceased will be performed on Monday (today) at Farooq-e-Azam Mosque in Block K, Nazimabad, after Isha prayer.
