Golden Globes: 5 fashion fails over the years
While we wait to savour major fashion moments from the 2020 ceremony, here's a look back at 5 such moments
With the Golden Globes upon us once again – the ceremony airs January 6 – it’s safe to assume that Hollywood’s who’s who are gearing up to dazzle on the red-carpet once again. From lavish couture gowns to unconventional, elaborate looks, the stars will be trying to put their best, experimental foot forward.
While we wait another day to savour major fashion moments from the 2020 ceremony, here’s a look back at just 5 – there have been many – of some of the most riskiest looks at the Golden Globes red-carpet, as compiled by E! News.
1) Cameron Diaz – 1999
Arriving on the 1999 Golden Globes carpet in a fittingly end-of-the-decade style moment, Cameron Diaz turned heads for her eccentric pairing of a wrapped dress with pants. Part kimono, part regular dress, it was hard to wrap our heads around this wrap dress.
2) Keira Knightley – 2015
Keira Knightley’s custom Chanel dress required over 30 people to finish, and was risky alright, just not one we would be willing to undertake. The frills and the butterflies gave it a renaissance touch but one that wasn’t so much for the books.
3) Claire Danes – 2015
Valentino on the red-carpet rarely goes wrong, and this was one of those rare occasions. Sometimes, too much really is too much, and even Claire Danes couldn’t save this look which was just, well too much.
4) Bjork – 2001
If quirkiness and eccentricity came together as one, this would be it. Sequins? – check. Abstract print? – check. Pink bow? – Check. A furry, boxy pullover? Check – A peeking owl purse? –Check! We rest our case.
5) Helena Bonham Carter – 2011
Never the one to let critics deter her, Bonham Carter showed up in mismatched shoes with an already overly attention-grabbing dress. The Vivienne Westwood creation was impressively done, nonetheless, and made sure she turned heads on the 2011 red-carpet.
