ISLAMABAD:
The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration was taking action against delinquent officials to increase transparency in its departments in order to facilitate a maximum number of people. 'Internal Accountability within the department is our top priority,' said Islamabad Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hamza Shafqaat while addressing an award ceremony held at Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) on Friday.

Recalling the performance of the local administration during the past year, he said the department had established five 'PanaahGaah' shelter homes across the city where accommodation and three meals a day were being provided to needy and poor people.

Under the clean and green Islamabad campaign, he said, around one million saplings were planted so far to add more greenery in the city.

More than 15,000 kanals encroached land was also retrieved by the authorities in collaboration with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other stakeholders.

The assistant commissioners were coordinating with municipal staff and imposing fines on littering to keep the city clean, he said.

To promote paperless culture ICT has launched a price app titled 'Durust Dam' that allows citizens to see daily prices of essential commodities besides lodging complaints against the profiteers.

Under the tobacco-free Islamabad campaign, nearly 100 drug awareness campaigns were also organised in educational institutes. 'Civil servants belong to the public and are always ready to serve them,' said parliamentarian Kanwal Shauzab, while dispelling the public perception about bureaucrats that they were politically influenced.

Parliamentary Secretary for Interior Haji Shaukat Ali urged the employees to perform their duties with honesty and without any neglect.
