Urs of Shah Rukne Alam begins in Multan

The three-day 706th Urs of Sufi saint of the subcontinent Shah Rukne Alam began with religious fervour on Wednesday.

Caretaker of the shrine and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi inaugurated the Urs ceremonies by leading traditional practice of rose water washing of the grave and laying floral wreath.


Federal Parliamentary Secretary on Finance Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Javed Akhtar Ansari, and Mureed Hussain Qureshi were also present at the inaugural ceremony. The foreign minister prayed for progress and prosperity of the country. On the occasion, he said, “The great saint propagated Islamic teachings in this part of the world.”

He added that the spiritual guidance is still in progress as thousands of devotees visit the shrine annually. The local administration made tight security arrangements for the event.
