World’s best mayor?
LONDON:
This is with reference to Ahmad Rafay Alam’s article “The world’s best mayor?” (June 12).
The world’s best mayor contest should not be based merely on voting. It should have some key performance indicators to evaluate competing mayors. It is too simplistic to ask people to vote for their favourite mayor. Every city has its own share of problems and short comings. Applying someone else’s ideas to rate another one is not the correct way to look at things.
It seems the writer has only seen the roads and flyovers in Karachi and is oblivious to the fact that a huge amount of work done has been done which is not visible, for the simple reason that it had to do with building or improving the city's sewage and drainage systems. Also, so many parks have been made in many localities across Karachi. All of this have benefitted the city's resident irrespective of their social status or creed.
We need to open our minds and look at things positively rather than being critical about everything.
