Report mentions that 48 alleged criminals were killed in encounters

Sindh Police IG Dr Syed Kaleem Imam lauded the performance of Sindh Police during 2019 and saluted the officials who had lost their lives in the line of duty.

According to a Sindh AIG Operations’ report, as many as 49,834 suspects were arrested in 2019 for being involved in different criminal activities. Moreover, 1,114 encounters took place between the police and alleged criminals, where the law enforcers apprehended 1,534 suspects red-handed, while 504 criminal gangs were eliminated during the year.

“During 2019, 13,697 absconders and 20,976 suspects on the run were arrested,” the report revealed. “From different parts of the province, 21 target killers, 6 dacoits, 39 terrorists and 13,547 criminals were also arrested [in 2019].”

The report further mentioned that 48 criminals were killed in encounters with police. Moreover, police claimed to have seized four anti-aircraft guns, three G3s, six MP5, 213 SMGs, 749 shotguns and repeaters, 167 rifles and 37,527 pistols, revolvers and mousers during different operations.

The law enforcers also recovered 31 bombs, 2 improvised explosive devices, 17 fuses and detonators, 50 sets of bomb-making equipment and 665 rockets along with 412 hand grenades, 42 missiles and 219.9 kilogrammes of explosive material.

The report stated that on the directives of the Sindh IGP, police acted against criminals, drug peddlers and illegal weapon holders throughout the year to maintain the law and order situation. Furthermore, awareness campaigns regarding community policing were run during the year.
