Financial Assistance: BISP funds increased by Rs20 billion

National Assembly Deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi has said that the government has increased funds for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) from Rs50 billion to Rs70 billion to provide relief to the poor segments of society. He said more than 76 families in Dera Ismail Khan were being given cheques worth Rs150,000 in order to provide basic amenities to them, while the government was planning to increase the sphere of BISP in other areas of the province as well.


BISP Director General Dr Akram Ghani, Member Provincial Assembly Samiullah Alizai, former minister for revenue Makhdoom Mareed Kazim and others were present on the occasion. He also said that 1,100 families of Dera Ismail Khan were affected by militancy in the region, out of which 400 families were being given financial support under the BISP. He added that Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani would visit Dera Ismail Khan soon after Eidul Fitr to inaugurate the Lift Canal Project.
