Initiatives planned to extend SMEs outreach

Smeda urged to focus on value addition, brand development.

Special initiatives will be undertaken to expand the outreach of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda) throughout the country for equitable development of SME sector, said Aziz Ahmad Bilour, Federal Secretary Industries, at a meeting with senior management of Smeda on Monday.



Bilour, while praising the performance of Smeda, assured it of extending support in meeting needs of the organisation to accelerate the pace of SME development in the country. He said that the government was committed to curbing poverty and unemployment, for which growth of small and medium enterprises was essential.

He observed that an easy access to finance was the utmost need of SMEs that required an effective mechanism supported with a conducive policy environment at government level.

However, he advised Smeda to give special attention to promoting value addition and brand development in the SME sector.
