Google doodle is paying tribute to Pakistan's renowned singer Iqbal Bano on her 81st birth anniversary, that is December 28, 2019 - today.
The legendary singer and 1974's Pride of Performance Award recipient, was known for her semi-classical Urdu ghazals, and classical thumris. She also sang easy-listening numbers in 1950's films.
Bano was born in Delhi in 1938 and studied under Ustad Sabri Khan of the Delhi Gharana, an expert in all kinds of pure classical and light classical forms of vocal music. He instructed her in pure classical music and light classical music within the framework of classical forms of thumri and dadra.
Following this began singing on All India Radio as a teenager. She is also known for her defiant performance of protest poetry by Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Only a few singers of classical music matched the brilliance of her voice and her command over musical notes.
In the past, Google also paid tribute to Pakistan’s prominent personalities, Nusrat Fateh Ali khan, Abdul Sattar Edhi, Noor Jehan, Waheed Murad, Nazia Hassan, Fatima Surayya Bajia and many others.
