1,291 arrested in drug crackdown

LAHORE: Lahore police, in continuation of its crackdown against drug peddlers and gamblers in the city, arrested as many as 1,291 accused persons during last week.

Accordingly, City division police arrested 127, Cantt division police arrested 143, Civil Lines division police arrested 80, Saddar division police arrested 85, Iqbal Town division police arrested 62 whereas Model Town division police arrested 94 drug peddlers during their crackdown.

Police also seized more than 96kg of hashish, 6kg of heroin, more than 5kg of opium, 6kg of bhang and 8,770 litres of liquor from the arrested criminals. Police also recovered around Rs1.13 from the 700 criminals in its successful action against gamblers. Lahore DIG Operations Rai Babar Saeed said that Lahore police has been implementing a zero tolerance policy against criminals, particularly drug peddlers and gamblers. Lahore police will deal with these anti-social elements with iron hands, he added.
